Update May 10th: Following comments made today and communication we have had with the rink, we have secured an ice slot for the Metros at the time mentioned below for May 18th.
It sounds like we’ve done this a few times over now, and that’s because we have! We’re on track to be returning to the rink in the coming weeks, and are in talks with the rinks and league to make sure we’re on top of the conditions that will still be required for us to get the Metros chugging along again.
The EIHA has stated that Senior non-elite hockey, which University sports falls into, will not be able to take place until Step 3 of the Government’s Covid Roadmap. This change will take place no earlier than May 17th, and as such we will be looking beyond this date before considering a restart of team activities on ice.
Before the season’s training begins in earnest this autumn, we are looking into hosting sessions for the team, either formally training to dust off the cobwebs, or informal game scenarios/scrimmages. We should have more info on this soon, but feel free to pester us for updates if you’re keen to get back on the ice over the summer.
We have now had it confirmed by the rink that we have been allocated a Tuesday evening training slot, with us on ice at 23:00 on Tuesdays for this upcoming season 2021-2022. As those of you who attended our training sessions in late 2020 will know, the safety requirements can change quickly, and so we need to be flexible to allow for this. We will make sure that in the player Facebook groups we update you as soon as we know what these are.
Beyond this, as some of you will know we have been invited by the Hull Ice Hogs to participate in a day-long scrimmage in the summer, and we are continuing to work to finalize arrangements for this, as well as figure out eligibility questions that have been raised for this coming year.
